Who are we as ALT?

If you’ve come across the name ALT- short for Advantage Learning Technologies – you might be wondering who we are and what we’re all about.

At our core, we’re a proudly South African education company made up of passionate, driven people who believe learning can – and should – be more engaging, accessible, and equitable. ALT is the company behind AdvantageLearn.com, the Advantage Learn Foundation (ALF), and our custom software division, SALT.

Our ALT Story

Our journey began in 2012 when my mother, Trish Pike, my brother, Crispian Lees, our technical co-founder Chris Muller, and I took a leap of faith to build something rooted in our shared love for education, technology, and innovation.

What began as a small family venture has since evolved into a dynamic platform supporting thousands of learners across South Africa.

We chose the name Advantage Learning Technologies – or ALT – not only to reflect our commitment to advancing learning, but also as a nod to the ‘Alt’ key on a keyboard: a key that activates action. Just like we aim to do with education.
